The sun has been the most welcoming and warming thing over the course of the last few days. Laying out on a padded sun lounger, I’ve been in St. Barts for over seventy-two hours of pure bliss. Berklee flew in late last night and, since my husband decided to hoe me out on the plane ride and not bother to advise if he was coming or not, I invited company of my own. The trip is fully paid for, thanks to my husband, and the idyllic tropical getaway is exactly what I needed from the stresses of New York and the wedding.

The villa that was booked is absolutely stunning with a fluid floor plan that allows you to amble from one room to the other. There is a massive kitchen with a modern design that opens directly to the pool. It holds several terrace areas, a main living area space, and six bedrooms.

The best part—the view. Right over a balcony overlooks the crystal blue sea and garden views. The second best was the suite bath where I could literally swim in that thing. I had a personal chef cook Berklee and I breakfast this morning and we’ve been lounging like a couple of lazy cats all day.

“I think we should make this a thing,” my sister suggests at my side on her lounger, arm draped over her eyes to block out the sun. “Like at the end of every week.”

“God, wouldn’t that be heaven? I should’ve had Dad buy me a place here. A whole completely different country than the one my husband lives in.”

Berklee chuckles. “Oh, c’mon. He did his job the other night. I heard girls swooning all through the reception.”

“Did you ask if they wanted him?” I pull my sunglasses from my eyes and glance over at her, finding her still covered up by her forearm, but she waves a hand at me.

“Oh, stop. Like you’d let them. You almost ripped Rozlyn’s eyes out.”

“Nothing changes,” I retort, returning my face up toward the sun to receive a consistent tan. Even though I’m beginning to sweat, I have a few more minutes before jumping in the pool to cool off.

“Why not? You might as well call a truce at this point.”

“I’ll tell you why I don’t, dear sis. If he hates me, he stays away. And when he stays away, Brielle is safe.”

The sound of the soft breeze cuts into our silence as we lie there. And when I think Berklee may have fallen asleep as she has twice already, she says, “Is she, though?”

“What do you mean?”

“Aspyn, seriously.” Her tone becomes serious—too serious—for the sort of vibe I’m trying to stay in. “This needs to stop eventually.”

“Uh, huh…there’s no way I can get into that. It’s too late, Berk.”

“It’s not too late.”

“How the hell would you tell him about Brielle?” I argue. “Oh, hey, I know we just got married and shit, but it’s not just me you married.”

“Yes, and then you add the last part…”

“No.”

And I’m not going to budge on it.
